Born in the birthplace of soul, jazz, and gumbo, Morris Mayfield III was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, with a desire to contribute to something bigger than himself. He enrolled in the Marine Corps in July 1996 and, since then, has served as Platoon Commander, Marine Liaison at Mess Hall 521, and Operation Chief for Food Service Company, Combat Logistic Regiment 27. During Mr. Mayfield's time as Operations Chief, he won numerous awards, including “Best Mess Hall” of the Quarter. Earlier on in his career, Mr. Mayfield has shown that he has a natural talent for leadership. In the year 2013, he served as Mess Chief and Facilities Chief for Combat Logistics, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and just one year later, served as an instructor at Marine Corps Food Service School aboard Marine Corps Detachments Fort Lee, Virginia, where he was promoted to Master Sergeant.
On December 2, 2019, Mr. Morris Mayfield III was promoted to Master Gunnery Sergeant Mayfield and appeared in numerous speaking events, and has served as a constant beacon of discipline, motivation, through consistency. He has served as a team leader, faculty advisor, Senior Instructor, Small Garrison, Staff Non-Commissioned Officer In-Charge, Chief Instructor, Equal Opportunity Representative, and Operations Chief. His personal awards include two Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, eight Good Conduct Awards, and a Recruiter Ribbon. Mr. Morris Mayfield III is a graduate of Lincoln University.
